| There are no hard and fast rules for what a Junior player can or can’t have, but it is important that the size of the stick is correct. The simplest way to size a growing junior is to stand the stick next to them and check the height of the stick in relation to the top of the hip. If the stick is level with or slightly above (by no more than half an inch) the hip then the stick is fine. Anything bigger or smaller is not suitable. Once the youngster requires a 36.5” stick then they have reached the standard adult size. Any decent Coach would agree that unless they become significantly taller there is no physical need to have anything longer. Once the correct size is ascertained the one to choose largely depends on the level of ability and standard of hockey played, but complete beginners need look no further than entry level basic sticks of £10 - £15 to get something suitable. There is nothing to stop you spending more and a number of higher specification junior sticks are now available to cater for highly skilled youngsters, for example the new CX 5 Academy. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
